Meet the Makers
In our new profile series, 'Meet the Makers’ we caught up with one of our saddle-makers, Rory, who is based in our UK workshop. We spoke to Rory about his craft and why he became part of the industry. Before becoming a saddle maker, Rory worked as a Gin distiller, and has always valued the precision and tradition of a craft-based occupation.
During the nightmare period of Covid-19, Rory’s Gin business unfortunately wound down, however, fortunately for us, his commitment to stay creative and continue with a craft that embodies these age-old techniques was unalterable. After having the realization that a practical job was the only way to scratch this itch, Rory decided the challenge of saddle-making would make for an amazing next chapter. This introduced him to a life-long love affair for this trade so rich with tradition and innovation. Fast-forward, and Rory is now well into his saddle making journey, and has become a valued member of the Aviar team, with an unmatched attention to detail. He continues to hone his craft, and produce work that not only reflects his incredible workmanship, but also our whole brand ethos.
